Rex American Crocodile

DIG DEEPER! These Giant Blue Land Crabs can be found on the rocky shores of Florida’s marinas. I found this crab while out searching for crocs in murky, salty shores. They have massive powerful pincers and a gorgeous yellow-blue color combo that makes them a spectacle. This photo is of a Giant Land Crab I found a couple feet underground in his deep burrow. Many arthropods can feel the low pressure from the large storms before they reach our horizon. So in preparation he dug deep probably to escape the winds and flying debris. The burrow also serves to escape the heat. It’s probably about 5 degrees Fahrenheit cooler in his burrow than it is on the surface. Burrows can also lure in other animals seeking protection to find somebody is already home, and that’s an easy lunch for this Giant Blue Crab.
