This is Rex, one of the three American Crocodiles we have at the Everglades Outpost, is just over 9 feet long. In this photo, Rex is coming over to investigate me from the safety of his primary habitat, his water. In the past, I’ve admittedly had little to no experience with crocodiles in any way. Before recently I was only reading about them online and in books while talking to multiple experts who have worked side by side with crocs professionally. Now I work around them everyday, learning more with every passing minute. Watching their every move, seeing what makes a crocodile tick. And I love it! So quick to respond and a different kind of beast from the Alligator. Most but not all Crocodile species get larger than Alligators but will tire easily when they exert their power. Everyone wants to know who’s more dangerous, the Alligator or the Crocodile. Well both species are potentially dangerous if fed or provoked. So at the end of the day, just bask in the natural wonder that is this modern day dinosaur, the American Crocodile (Crocodylus acutus).
