WE GOT ONE!! This is me trudging through the mangrove mud flats in Florida searching for the rare diamondback terrapin. We found one out there after walking in the mud for hours. My sandals snapped and kept getting sucked in so I just went barefoot. It’s ALWAYS BETTER herping with your buddies. In case something happens, you have your own personal evac team, and people to talk to so you don’t lose your mind out there, and more eyes can find more animals. The more the merrier! Mangrove habitats in Florida are our #1 defense against hurricanes and keep our beaches from washing away. They are an impeccable habitat for shark and croc nurseries, as well as shelter and habitat for thousands of animals that live by the shoreline. Mangroves have been proven to be the ONLY natural way to expand shorelines and increase landmass other than volcanic activity. Our sands will wash away and the building we built on the graves of these mangrove flats will fall because humans can’t get out of our own way. Take care of the land we live on, and it will take care of us. This cool photo was taken by @thermoregulator
